Fujifilm X-E1: Design
The Fujifilm X-E1 is beautiful, no doubt. Especially in the black and silver finish of the specimen under test. The vintage charm is obvious, but beyond the aesthetic factor design choices experimented with the Fujifilm X100 were properly maintained. Then the rings are always very comfortable for the times and for compensation, as well as the aperture ring with stops at every third stop, present in the two optical given me to the test, or the Fujifilm XF 18mm F2 R and the Fujifilm XF 35mm F1.4 R.
Easy to change the focus mode lever with dedicated, as it is easy to change the point of focus and the exposure meter reading mode with the appropriate buttons. For all other settings have the ” Q ” key that allows you to quickly and easily changes each parameter.
Excellent electronic viewfinder, which I think is preferable to the hybrid viewfinder. The hybrid mode does not give certainty about the correctness of the focus, unlike precisely the electronic viewfinder. Just wish they were not included in the firmware how-to manual focus with focus peaking and split-image, presented with the new Fujifilm X20 and Fujifilm X100S.
But there is always the possibility they will be added with future updates. Small but functional retractable flash, thanks to the joint can be held with a finger of the left hand pointing upwards: you get so glare more, provided of course have a ceiling is not too high and possibly white.
Fujifilm X-E1: Features and Functionality
Use the Fujifilm X-E1 is a real pleasure. The three rings of the exposure time, aperture and compensation make the use tremendously fast and effective. The auto focus is not lightning like that of a traditional SLR, but is still unable to handle situations such as photography of children.
Great white balance, as well as the work of the exposure. Only a downside is the management of the Auto ISO: You can, choose the minimum shutter speed, as opposed to its “cousin” Fujifilm X100. The shutter is then always set to 1/30s, with so easily moved to stumble across subjects, as well as with the ” edge effect ” when using the flash. I hope that in this case is to rescue a future firmware upgrade.
An aspect instead I was disappointed is the shutter sound. Spoiled by the fact whisper shutter central Fujifilm X100, I was a bit crowded out by non-metallic sound, but still audible tendon of the Fujifilm X-E1. Finally, I had some problems with the battery. Not so much for autonomy, really good, but rather for the indicator, which goes from full to 2/3 when she was just enough power for about fifty shots. As for the other model of the house is highly recommended to always have a spare battery.
The JPG baked from Fujifilm X-E1 are great already with the standard settings. If you want you can also activate the simulations yield of well-known films in the house Fujifilm, like slides Sensia and Velvia. Personally, I found the pictures a little too reddish, that is especially noticeable in the comparison between JPG and RAW.
The latter also returns the full detail and dynamic range of the sensor Fujifilm, then, in my opinion, is a format preferred, or at least always to be attached to JPG. The ISO goes from 200 to 25,600 ISO without any problems. Even at maximum sensitivity the most important details are always recognizable, while those for the finer, it is more prudent to stay within the ISO 6,400 are considerable.
Conclusion
I immediately appreciated the Fujifilm X-E1, since in practice the “cousin” with interchangeable lenses. But it is undeniable that this new system is a really good party: good and excellent optical sensors. It is the ideal camera for those looking for a second body slightly to match the heavy and bulky SLR kit, but it is also a perfect camera to start and to continue without any special waiver.
